The Basalt Cut
Our standard appointment: scissor or clipper work, wash, and a finish you can repeat at home. Best if you come back every four to six weeks.

Appointment barbering — four chairs
Basalt Room takes one client per chair, per slot. No queue, no rush, and a cut you can keep for six weeks without a rescue trip.
The cut list
Times are honest rather than optimistic. If your hair needs longer than the slot allows, we will say so when you book instead of hurrying the finish.
Prices hold for every barber in the room. Students and under-12s take £5 off any cut, Tuesday to Thursday.

Graded down to the skin with a scissor-cut top. Holds its shape for about three weeks, so book the follow-up on your way out.
55 min
For a real change of direction. We talk through growth pattern, texture and how much morning effort you actually want before anything is cut.
75 min
Shears, trimmer and a razor line through the cheek and neck. Can be added to any cut for £14 if booked at the same time.
30 min
Two towels, pre-shave oil, a straight razor pass with the grain and a cold finish. Not suitable on broken or freshly sunburnt skin.
45 min
Neckline, ears and a light clean-up only, for clients we have cut in the last five weeks. No wash, in and out.
20 min
Grey blending, colour matching and scalp-sensitive products are available on request — mention it in your booking note so the right barber is on the chair.
In the chair
Four stages, every visit. It is why a cut here takes forty-five minutes rather than twenty.
Five minutes on what grew out badly last time, how you wear it on a working morning, and what you are willing to do with product.
Warm basin wash with a mild, fragrance-light shampoo. Tell us if your scalp is reactive and we will switch the bottle.
Worked dry-to-wet depending on texture, checked in the mirror at the halfway point so nothing is a surprise at the end.
Styled once the way you will wear it, then the guard numbers and the shape go on your file for the next visit.
The room
A barbershop should be quiet enough to hear what someone asks for. Ours holds four chairs, plays records at a volume you can talk over, and never books two people into the same half hour.

The barbers
Ask for a name when you book, or leave it to us and we will match you to whoever suits the work.
Book a chair
Send a request and we will come back with two or three times that fit. Nothing is confirmed until you reply to us.
Please give us a day's notice to move a booking. Running late is fine — we hold the chair ten minutes, then shorten the cut to fit.
Questions
The things people ask at the door, answered here so you do not have to.
If your current shape is roughly right, book The Basalt Cut. If you want something genuinely different, or it has been more than three months, take the Restyle Consultation so there is time to talk before anything is cut.
Yes, from about age five, and best earlier in the day when the room is quieter. Under-12s take £5 off Tuesday to Thursday. We ask that a parent stays in the shop for the whole appointment.
Of course. Book the Beard Shape & Line, or the Hot Towel Shave if you want the razor and towels. Both are full appointments in their own right, so they are never squeezed in around a cut.
We hold your chair for ten minutes. After that we will still cut you, but within whatever time is left before the next booking — usually that means skipping the wash rather than rushing the cut itself.
No. We will tell you what your hair actually needs, including when the answer is nothing, and we are happy to explain how to use something you already own at home.
Yes — shop credit can be put on any service and does not expire. Send a booking request with the service and the recipient's name in the notes, and we will arrange it by email.
